I'm Charlie Shread, co-founder of Wondering School, producer of the documentary School Circles, video editor, sound designer, educator, Sociocracy for Schools (S4S) course trainer and aspiring writer.

Bio

I believe that to build a regenerative and emancipatory society, education must extend beyond classroom walls and empower communities to govern themselves. I work with documentary filmmaking, democratic governance and sociocracy facilitation to explore, document, and grow compassionate humanizing systems. In 2016, I co-founded Wondering School to promote humanizing education. Through this project, I directed and produced School Circles, a documentary examining sociocracy in six democratic schools in the Netherlands. The film was televised by Canal Futura in Brazil, has been screened to over 150 audiences worldwide and used as a catalyst to bring democratic governance into hundreds of schools, organizations and learning communities globally. This film directly led to co-creating the Sociocracy for Schools (S4S) course. My partner and I have since trained over 120 participants across 17 cohorts in consent-based decision-making and inclusive governance. In my media production work, I deliver post-production, video editing and sound design for purpose-driven projects. I hold a BA in Film Production from the Arts University Bournemouth and have completed over 100 client projects across educational, promotional, and documentary formats. I also serve as the Sound Designer for The Spaceship Earth podcast, having edited over 65 episodes using advanced audio editing to enrich the listening experience. I also mentor youth in media and ethical journalism through programs like the School of Humanity, Kubrio, and the Filmmaker's Club at Recess. Whether editing audio, filming a documentary, or facilitating a circle, my focus is on supporting communities built on dialogue and active engagement.
